During a recent fishing trip to Lake Erie, our group had the pleasure of staying at Holiday Village Resort Motel & Suites. I say pleasure because it’s not often that one finds a place that meets or surpasses the expectations conveyed through a brochure or web site.

Our decision to stay at the resort was a result of the recommendation of our charter captain, and our approval of what we saw on the resort’s web site.

Location:

The resort is located on the northern end of the Cawtaba peninsula, which is within a 10-minute drive of Port Clinton’s famous walleye fishery, and the Lake Erie Islands. A variety of stores and restaurants and bait shops are located nearby.

Accommodations:

We arrived at the resort after hours. A problem at some places, but the management of the resort held our rooms with the use of a Visa and had our rooms ready and waiting. I found the resort to be a small group of well built bungalow surrounded by neatly manicured and pleasantly lit landscaping. My first impression held true as I found our room to be neat, clean and spacious. Because our group consisted of 6 guys, we booked two adjoining rooms. This worked out great because one room was considered a suite and had a full kitchen, while the other served as a spacious 2nd bedroom.

Along with the full kitchen, the suite consisted of one queen sized bed, two bunk beds and a pullout couch in the small living area. The smaller room had the same sleeping arraignments, and a kitchenette complete with a microwave, mini-fridge and coffee maker. Both bathrooms had showers, and were found to be in very clean condition. The only thing missing from the rooms was a telephone, but that didn’t seem to be too inconvenient as most of us had our own cellular telephones with us anyway. For those who don’t have cellular telephones, a pay phone was located just outside the main office.

The resort also offers a two-bedroom suite, and an efficiency apartment style room above the main building.

Amenities:

Our first daylight look at the grounds was after our first day of fishing. Even though it was late September and in the high 60’s, the heated pool and Jacuzzi were still available and being used by several guests. I found the deck of our bungalow to be a pleasant way to wind down after long day of fishing, as did the rest of the guys. The deck overlooked the pool and a small playground and miniature golf area that seemed to be closed for the season.

A walk around the grounds found a volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a picnic area complete with a couple of gas grills and a fish cleaning area on the other side of the parking lot.

Fishing:

The Holiday Village Resort has four sport fishing boats available for Lake Erie fishing charters, and has a variety of packages available. While the walleye fishery is the most popular, Holiday Village Resorts also specializes in smallmouth bass and perch fishing. An adjacent parking lot offers enough room for those who trailer their own boats. The resort is located close to West End marine, and within minutes of several others.

The Holiday Village Resort offers a variety of rooms and packages that can fit almost anyone’s budget, and can accommodate large or small groups. Whether you’re part of a group of fishermen, or looking for a place to bring the entire family, Holiday Village Resort will provide you with a comfortable and pleasant place to stay.
